Tern has just introduced their new folding bike series called BYB (Bring Your Bike) in May 2019. There are two new bikes, which are BYB S11 and BYB P8, and both of them are launched in July 2019.
New Features
Tern is a Taiwanese company founded in 2011 by Josh Hon whose father is Dahon’s founder. Therefore, a lot of Tern bikes have the same middle hinge as found on Dahon folders. The new Tern BYB bikes have made a breakthrough by introducing TriFold technology with 2 hinges on the main frame and 1 more hinge on the handlepost.
Tern describes these as their smallest folding bikes ever as they are 30% smaller than typical 20-inch folding bikes. They use 20-inch wheels, therefore, the folded size is not as compact and the folding mechanism is a little more complex than a Brompton. Otherwise, they feature rack-integrated spinner wheels for easier trolleying, a stiff and durable DoubleDeck frame design, and a comfortably long cockpit.
