Performance

One of the first things I noticed about the G-Line is how different it feels compared to traditional Brompton bikes. Previous models typically use smaller 16-inch wheels and are clearly optimized for urban commuting. The G-Line moves up to larger 20-inch wheels paired with Schwalbe G-One All Round tires, which are significantly wider and more capable on uneven surfaces. This makes a huge difference in ride comfort and stability. Small bumps, gravel paths, and rough pavement that might feel twitchy on a standard folding bike feel much more manageable here. It rides more like a conventional hybrid bike rather than a compact folder.

The electric drive system itself is called e-Motiq, and it’s a major redesign compared with Brompton’s earlier electric setups. Instead of placing the motor in the front wheel, Brompton moved to a rear-hub motor rated at about 250 watts with around 24–30 Nm of torque. This change improves traction and gives the bike a more natural ride feel because power is delivered through the rear wheel where most weight is distributed. The system also includes a torque sensor that adjusts assistance based on how hard you pedal, which helps the bike feel responsive rather than jerky. In my experience, the motor engages smoothly and provides a noticeable boost when climbing hills or accelerating from a stop.

The battery is a 345 Wh removable unit housed in a front bag, which is a clever design choice. It keeps the bike balanced while still allowing the battery to be easily removed for charging indoors. Brompton claims a range of roughly 20 to 45 miles depending on terrain, rider weight, and assist level, and that seems realistic from my perspective. If you ride in moderate assist modes, the battery can last several days of commuting. A full charge takes about 4 hours which is reasonable for a battery of this size.

In terms of ride quality, the G-Line is surprisingly stable for a folding bike. The longer wheelbase, wider handlebars, and hydraulic disc brakes give it a confident feel that’s noticeably more robust than earlier Brompton models. Braking power is excellent thanks to Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, which provide consistent stopping performance even on wet roads or dirt trails. The bike also includes a simple 4-speed drivetrain that covers most commuting and casual riding scenarios.

Many people were wondering if the G-Line is truly capable of off-road riding. From my experience, the answer is yes—but only to a certain extent. The wider tires and improved geometry allow the bike to handle gravel paths, dirt trails, and cobblestone streets comfortably. If your rides include mixed surfaces like park trails, canal paths, or light forest roads, the G-Line performs well. The electric assist also helps maintain momentum on loose surfaces or mild climbs.

That said, it is important to keep expectations realistic. The G-Line is not a gravel bike or a mountain bike. The folding frame design and relatively small wheels still impose limitations when the terrain becomes rough or technical. Steep rocky trails, roots, and deep mud are situations where the bike begins to feel out of its element.

At around 42.9 lbs with the battery installed, the bike is heavier than many folding bikes. While this isn’t a problem when riding, you definitely feel it when carrying the bike up stairs or lifting it into a car trunk. The fold itself remains compact, though, and it still takes less than 20 seconds to fold it.

This is an excellent bike for riders who want a compact e-bike that can handle both city commuting and occasional off-pavement exploration. It is suitable for suburban riders who mix bike lanes with gravel paths, or commuters who occasionally venture onto park trails during weekend rides.

Conclusion

After spending time with the Brompton Electric G-Line and its e-Motiq system, my overall impression is very positive. It feels like Brompton finally designed an electric folding bike that rides like a real bicycle rather than a compromise. The G-Line is best described as an adventure-ready folding commuter – one that can confidently leave the pavement, but still belongs primarily on roads and smooth trails.

Design & Comfort

Out of the box, the MOKWHEEL needs some assembly before you can start riding. It took me about an hour for the whole process which is totally acceptable. Basically, you will need to attach the handlepost, seat, front wheel, fender, light, and display. It is quite straightforward and I didn’t have to read the manual since it is the same process as my previous bikes.

The Slate looks sleek and rugged. All parts like the folding joints and latches are well-built and I like the solid frame. It doesn’t have the flimsy feel found on some cheaper e-bikes. The build quality makes me confident that the bike can handle rough use. It is really heavy at around 67 lbs including the battery.

However, I’m very disappointed with the folding mechanism of this bike. This is probably the worst among all bikes I’ve ever used. While the folding mechanism itself is straightforward, actually handling the bike is a different story. I fold down the handlebar first, then open the latch to fold the bike in half; In the meantime, I need to turn the front wheel so that the handlebar doesn’t sit between the 2 wheels. I also have to deal with the pedals which are always there to block the way. In the end, we have a bulky folded bike that sometimes can’t stand on its own. The stand on the bottom doesn’t work properly in this case and the bike stands on the pedals most of the time.

Lifting or carrying the Slate is not easy, especially when I need to take it to my car. It’s not something I’d want to do often. The weight and bulk make it hard to lift up. That said, once it’s folded, it is actually quite compact. Even though my car trunk is relatively small, the bike still fits inside without issue. So if you only need to transport it occasionally and don’t mind lifting a 67-lbs bike, it should be fine.

The folding part is probably the only disadvantage of the Slate. I like the natural riding position with a slightly upright posture that makes long rides easy on the back and shoulders. The seat is decently padded, and when combined with the front suspension and the fat tires, the overall riding experience is enjoyable even on longer trips. The fat tires absorb a lot of the shock from uneven surfaces, while the suspension helps smooth out rough patches. I can still feel some bumps on the road, especially over potholes or cracks on the road, but it’s far more comfortable than most e-bikes without suspension.

Performance

The most exciting feature of the Slate is the torque and cadence sensors. They work together to deliver a smoother and more natural riding experience. You can see the difference when starting from a stop or navigating tight spaces; there’s no sudden speed boost like you often get with bikes that rely only on cadence sensors. Therefore, the Slate feels safer, smoother, and much easier to handle; There is no jerky or delayed power delivery as I’m aware of. On flat roads, it glides effortlessly, and the motor kicks in when needed. I can climb hills without needing to pedal hard.

When it comes to power and speed, the Slate provides a strong boost. I can reach high speeds quickly, and even when climbing hills, I never feel like the bike is struggling. You can twist the throttle to reach the max speed of 20 mph or pedal with assist. I really appreciate the fast, responsive, and quiet motor.

In terms of battery life, it has a range of 50-60 miles, which is long enough for several rides before needing a recharge. The battery is integrated into the frame which makes the bike look clean and modern.

The Slate has an unusual theft-protection feature. The display detaches easily, and once you park the bike, you can remove the display to cut off power instantly. That means a thief can’t just hop on and ride away easily. Without the electric boost, the bike turns into an unpowered heavy frame that’s much harder to steal quickly. So, you can leave the bike momentarily unattended. Having said that, I still recommend you to use a quality lock to fully protect the bike.

Conclusion

In summary, the MOKWHEEL Slate is a powerful, comfortable, and well-built e-bike that offers an excellent riding experience. It performs great on a wide range of terrain while still being able to fold for storage or transport. However, you should be aware that it’s not light or easy to carry. The weight and bulky design make it impractical for commuters who need to lift it onto trains or upstairs. If you have no problem carrying that much weight, it won’t be an issue, but for anyone looking for a highly portable folding bike, this isn’t it. The bike is currently available for around $1,500 on its official website.

Design & Comfort

The Smalo LX2 is almost 90% assembled out of the box. After taking everything out, I just needed to install the pedals, front wheel, and tighten a few bolts. It took less than 20 minutes to get the bike ready.

Starting with the design, the Smalo LX2 makes a striking first impression. Its sleek frame and seamlessly integrated lights (automatically turned on in the dark) echo the aesthetics of high-end models. The geometrical design isn’t just for looks; it contributes significantly to the ride comfort, making it an attractive option for urban commuters.

One of the LX2’s strongest features is its tires. Equipped with thick Schwalbe tires, the bike maintains a smooth ride even without suspension. This design choice pays off, especially on the uneven and wet gravel trails typical of my testing ground. For an e-bike lacking advanced suspension technology, the LX2 handles these challenges with surprising well, largely due to these plush tires.

Smalo also integrates several modern conveniences into the LX2, such as a companion app that offers location tracking, settings management, anti-theft alerts, and even remote unlocking for the rear wheel lock. This rear lock is particularly noteworthy for quick errands, allowing riders to secure the bike without a traditional chain, although it’s not foolproof against more determined theft attempts. Notably, some of these features require a data service that costs $30 annually after the first free year. They are not worth it as I spend just $20 for an Apple AirTag to track my bikes and it works flawlessly.

Performance

The LX2 is not without its flaws, which become apparent particularly in the performance of its motor and AI-driven features. The 250W Bafang front hub motor is a notable underperformer. While it contributes to the bike’s impressive range by being less power-intensive, it lacks the necessary oomph expected in modern e-bikes. When climbing hills or needing quick acceleration, the motor becomes almost useless because its assistance is negligible. Of course, the weak motor can’t provide full throttle mode and you will always have to pedal to go forward.

The LX2 is equipped with a 504Wh battery, boasting a range of over 70 miles under ideal conditions or 50 miles on hilly routes. This sounds compelling but in my real-life tests, the maximum range is just about 20-30 miles. Another disadvantage is that the battery can’t be removed easily, so I always have to plug the power adapter to the bike to recharge the battery. In another test of the battery, I fully charged and left it unused for about 3 weeks; Surprisingly, the battery was completely drained out when I came back. Regular lithium batteries should self discharge just 1-2% month to month. The batteries discharge faster under colder weather but April’s weather is pretty mild in New England, so the quick self-discharge is still unacceptable.

Furthermore, the LX2’s touted AI shifting system falls short of expectations. Marketed as a next-generation feature, it unfortunately ends up complicating the riding experience. The system struggles with timely and appropriate gear changes, obviously it doesn’t understand my needs and keep changing gears when I want to keep a stable speed. As the result, my riding experience was more exhausting and jerky than ever. The built-in torque sensor is supposed to deliver natural pedaling but this fails to deliver.

Unfortunately, that Smart mode is the only electric mode I could use because the display and gear controls on the right side of the handlebar were not working. I couldn’t change gear manually and ended up with the Smart mode.

Conclusion

Pros

Stylish Design

Comfortable Ride

Cons

Underpowered Motor

Battery issues

Flawed AI Shifting System

Expensive

In summary, the Smalo LX2 is a huge disappointment in my test. Apart from the modern and clean look, it fails to deliver in almost all other aspects. The underpowered motor and problematic AI shifting system are major drawbacks; Its performance is even worse than many $1,000 e-bikes on the market. I didn’t feel the joy and excitement when riding this e-bike. Therefore, we at BikeFolded can’t recommend the bike at this time.

Design and Comfort

The bike’s assembly is straightforward, arriving 90% complete, which simplifies the initial setup process. Besides, its controls are intuitive and offer customization for different pedal-assist levels, although most users might find the default settings adequate.

The Portola features a folding mechanism that allows you to fold down the handlebar and fold the frame in half. It compacts to a manageable size, which is a significant advantage for those with limited storage space or who frequently transport their bike in a car trunk. This design does not compromise the bike’s aesthetic or structural integrity, as it also features a solid folding system with a click-button safety latch and a protective strap to prevent scratches when folded.

The bike rides on 3-inch wide tires coupled with a front suspension fork that strike a perfect balance between comfort and versatility, handling off-road conditions as well as city streets. The seating position is upright and comfortable, complemented by well-padded seats and an option for an upsized battery that enhances range without overly affecting the weight. When ordering the bike, you can choose between the 10.4Ah and 13.4Ah battery with a $100 price difference. The 10.4Ah battery has a range of around 25-30 miles in my test; You can remove the battery easily with the included key, then you can take the battery anywhere for recharging.

The Portola weighs in at 59 lbs, which is fairly lightweight in the world of fat-tire e-bikes. Still, it might be challenging when you need to lift it upstairs or move into a car.

The lack of handlebar and stem adjustability might be a drawback for riders who prefer a more customized setup. The bike generally fits me well but I still prefer a more spacious cockpit. Taller riders (more than 5’7″) might find the bike less comfortable, as the maximum seat height may not be enough for optimal leg extension. Adjusting the seat height is also not as easy because the tube seems to be too tight for the seatpost, even when I loosen the latch; You can see scratches all over the seatpost as I adjust it.

Ride1Up doesn’t skimp on safety and maintenance features. The inclusion of hydraulic disc brakes is a major plus, providing reliable stopping power and a lower maintenance requirement compared to mechanical brakes. However, it’s noteworthy that while the charger is UL-certified, the battery lacks this certification at launch, although the company has indicated that certification is pending.

Performance

The Portola is powered by a 750-watt motor, which delivers sufficient power to handle varied terrains and inclines comfortably. This power is particularly helpful when climbing uphills, where the motor provides a steady boost without feeling underpowered. Despite its strong motor, the bike manages to maintain the feel of a traditional bicycle with an 8-speed rear derailleur, making it approachable for all riders. It is classified as a Class 2 e-bike, with electric assist cutting out at 20 mph. The bike offers fun and nimble rides with good stability in corners and uneven terrain.

Riders will appreciate the controlled and quiet assistance the motor offers, enhancing the riding experience without overwhelming it. The throttle response complements the pedal assist system well, providing a reliable boost when needed. However, it is not perfect even though Ride1Up states that they have improved the riding quality with current-based cadence sensors. They are supposed to address jerky and unresponsive rides but they still feel unnatural in my test with sudden speed boost, therefore, the cadence sensors can’t replace torque sensors any time soon. Besides, the throttle response is somewhat binary, lacking the finesse that I expect; Therefore, it often feels awkward when I need to start the bike slowly from a full stop.

Conclusion

Pros

Strong motor

Comfortable ride with front suspension and fat tires

Good battery range

Cons

The throttle lacks finesse, can’t provide gradual control.

Limited cockpit space and seat height

Lack of UL Certification for the battery

Overall, the Ride1Up Portola is a good choice with a solid range of features, including a powerful motor, a durable folding design, and comfortable rides. However, the e-bike market is very competitive at this time with numerous choices for less than $1,000. We don’t recommend the Portola at its full price of $995 but if you could get a $100-$200 discount, it’s totally worth trying.

Design and Build

At the heart of the Vybe D7’s design is the DELTECH cable, a remarkable innovation by DAHON. This cable transforms the bike’s single-beam frame into a triangular structure, which is a game-changer in terms of strength and stability. The triangular design not only enhances the bike’s load capacity but also distributes stress more evenly across the frame, thereby increasing its longevity and reducing the impact on folding joints. The 15% increase in longitudinal rigidity also contributes to the bike’s overall durability, ensuring that it remains a reliable mode of transport over time.

The Vybe D7 is aesthetically pleasing and functionally efficient. Its small wheels and streamlined design make it both lightweight and ergonomic, catering to the needs of urban commuters who require a compact and easily transportable bike. The lightweight design does not compromise mechanical strength; in fact, the DELTECH cable increases the frame’s strength, ensuring a robust and durable build.

One of the standout features of the Vybe D7 is its portability. The bike is easy to carry and stow, making it an ideal choice for commuters who may need to combine cycling with other modes of transport. The quick and easy operation of the folding mechanism, which allows the bike to open and fold within 15 seconds, adds to its user-friendliness. I also really like the magnetic buckle which keeps the bike secure once folded.

Performance

The Dahon Vybe D7 is designed for agility and speed. Its lightweight frame, coupled with the DELTECH cable, allows for quick acceleration and a faster riding experience. The triangular structure of the frame contributes significantly to both longitudinal and lateral rigidity, which in turn results in more effective conversion of pedaling force into propulsion. This feature is crucial for riders looking to travel faster while conserving energy.

Gear shifting on the Vybe D7 is both convenient and precise, thanks to DAHON’s quality 7-speed shifter and derailleur. The bike’s smooth rotation, resistance to high pressure, and quick braking capabilities further enhance its safety profile, ensuring a secure and responsive riding experience.

Riding comfort and stability are also enhanced. The Vybe D7’s handlebar height and angle are easily adjustable and foldable, making it suitable for riders of varying heights and riding preferences. This adjustability, along with the increased rigidity, ensures a stable and comfortable ride.

Conclusion

Pros

Enhanced durability and strength

Lightweight and portable

Improved riding performance

Reasonable price

Cons

No cons

The Dahon Vybe D7, enhanced with the DELTECH cable, is a testament to DAHON’s commitment to innovation in bicycle technology. This bike is a finely tuned instrument for urban mobility, balancing speed, strength, and agility with safety and convenience. The Vybe D7 stands out for its ability to transform the everyday commute into a more efficient, enjoyable, and sustainable journey. Whether for the daily commuter, the weekend adventurer, or the urban explorer, the Dahon Vybe D7 is a superb choice that promises durability, performance, and ease of use, all wrapped up in an elegant and efficient design. It is also priced reasonably at less than $500, therefore, this is an easy recommendation from BikeFolded.

Design & Performance

The Retrospec Judd is a single-speed folding bike that stands out for its convenience and functionality, especially for urban commuters and those with limited storage space. Its design is centered around an aluminum frame, making it about 30% lighter than other folding bikes. This lightweight feature is enhanced by the use of Kenda Kwest commuter tires, known for their long-lasting durability and dependable performance in various urban conditions. I don’t really like the bulky and outdated folding latch but it works and feels fairly sturdy.

One of the key features of the Judd is its coaster brake system. This system eliminates the need for brake levers; instead, you simply pedal backward to engage the brake. This not only simplifies the braking process but also reduces maintenance since there are no brake pads or cables to take care of. However, it’s worth noting that coaster brakes can have the downside of increased skidding risk during sudden stops. Besides, you might be in big trouble if the chain comes off at high speed, there will be no backup brake then.

The bike’s 20-inch wheels are designed for faster acceleration, requiring less effort to get going and maintain riding speed, which contributes to an easier and more enjoyable ride. The bike is also equipped with ergonomic rubber grips and a comfortable seat, enhancing the overall riding experience, especially over longer distances.

In terms of adjustability, the Judd offers flexibility with adjustable handlebar height and seat height, catering to riders up to approximately 6 feet tall. The handlebars also tilt, allowing for further customization of the riding experience.

The Judd comes in several color options, including Black, Moss, Matcha, and Fjord offering a variety of choices to suit personal preferences.

Despite its many positives, the Retrospec Judd, like any bike, has its limitations. It’s mainly suited for flat terrain, given its single-speed nature. Additionally, the lack of gears might limit its versatility for different riding conditions or terrains.

Conclusion

Pros

Lightweight Design

Low Maintenance

Urban Commuter Friendly

Affordable

Comfortable for Short Rides

Cons

Limited Speed and Terrain Versatility

Braking System Limitations

Durability Concerns

Not Suitable for High-Speed Riding

Bulky folding latch

In terms of brand reputation, Retrospec is known for producing affordable outdoor products, including a wide range of bikes. They focus on making the outdoors accessible to a broader audience with their pricing strategy. While the bikes may not feature high-end components like Shimano gears, they offer a satisfactory experience for their price point.

Overall, the Retrospec Judd is a solid choice for those looking for a lightweight, low-maintenance, and easily storable bike, particularly suitable for urban commuting and short trips in the city. However, potential buyers should consider the limitations of a single-speed bike and the specificities of a coaster brake system before making a decision.

The world of e-bikes has seen a fast rise in popularity, and Swagtron, a company known for its diverse range of bikes, introduced the EB12 to capitalize on this trend. However, does the EB12 live up to the hype? We’ve tested the bike for a month to bring you the comprehensive review.

Design and Build

Straight out of the box, the EB12’s aesthetic is undeniably attention-grabbing. Its retro-style design, reminiscent of a classic road bike, gives it a distinct hipster vibe. The build quality, fortunately, doesn’t just stop at its looks. It features a sturdy frame with solid welds. While it might not be in the ultra-premium range, for its price point, the craftsmanship seems more than acceptable.

When it comes to comfort, the EB12 seems to have a mix of hits and misses. The larger 700c wheels provide a smoother ride over minor road imperfections. However, the wheels are quite slim and you should be extremely careful when riding to avoid rocks and potholes.

On the other hand, the absence of a suspension system and the firm seat might make prolonged rides a bit uncomfortable. Another concern is that it lacks both front and rear fenders, so you can easily get splashed on unexpected rainy days.

The battery is placed underneath the rear rack, so you still can use the rack for light errands or small grocery runs, adding to the bike’s utility.

Performance

Powering the EB12 is a 250-watt hub motor, which is sufficient for city commutes. It propels the bike to speeds of up to 16 mph. This isn’t the fastest e-bike on the market by any means, but for navigating urban environments, it’s certainly adequate.

The 7-speed Shimano drivetrain is a pleasant addition. It allows for a more versatile cycling experience, especially when the battery runs dry. Speaking of which, the 36V Li-ion battery promises a range of up to 28 miles on a single charge. However, real-world mileage can vary based on factors like rider weight, terrain, and riding habits.

Conclusion

Pros:

Retro-Style Design

Sturdy Build

Sufficient power for city commutes

Fast bike even without electric assistance

Decent battery range

Cons:

Uncomfortable

No fenders

Suitable for riding on paved roads only

With a price tag hovering around the $700 mark, the Swagtron EB12 does seem to offer decent value for its cost. Its distinct design, decent performance metrics, and reasonable price point, make a strong case for itself as a city e-bike. While it might not be packed with top-of-the-line features, it seems to strike a balance between functionality and style.

Design Brilliance

The Ranger S comes 60% assembled and it took me less than an hour to put all the remaining parts to the bike. Basically, I just needed to install the front wheel, light, handlepost, seat, and pedals.

The modern-day consumer demands functionality without compromising on aesthetics. The Heybike Ranger S delivers on both fronts. The matte-black finish with step-through design and a battery hidden in the main frame make it a head-turner on the road. The folding mechanism is very useful as it allows users to stow the bike away, be it in their apartments or car trunks. However, the frame is quite bulky, so many people might find the process a bit difficult.

No vehicle’s review is complete without addressing safety. The efficient disc brakes offer an immediate response, thereby significantly reducing stopping distances. Furthermore, the LED headlights and taillights, bright and conspicuous, ensure the rider’s visibility is maintained, especially during nighttime or in foggy conditions. Noticeably, this is also my first e-bike including front and rear turn signals; This feature is extremely useful as I no longer have to use hand or wear helmets with turn signals.

The Ranger S comes with a digital display showing important information like speed, PAS level, battery status, and trip distance. There is also an app offering some more customizations for the bike but most of us don’t need to use it.

Unparalleled Performance

Diving deeper into the technical specifications, the Ranger S shines with its impeccable performance metrics. Its 750-watt motor integrates with the manual pedaling mechanism, allowing users to glide uphill, cut through headwinds, and maintain steady speeds even when fatigue sets in. The transition of the motor is not really smooth because it uses a cadence sensor instead of a torque sensor; The bike receives the electric boost as soon as I start pedaling. This boost might surprise many new e-bikes users but you can avoid this by using the thumb throttle when starting the bike. The availability of multiple modes come useful for all types of riders – from the fitness enthusiasts who prefer manual pedaling to the commuters who lean towards the full-electric mode.

The battery range is another impressive feature. With most e-bikes struggling to maintain prolonged battery life, the Ranger S’s long-lasting battery ensures riders aren’t constantly on the lookout for the next charging point. Moreover, the battery can be easily removed with the included key, offering you more charging options. You can lock the bike outside and bring the battery to your office to recharge it, getting ready for the next ride. Even without electric, the bike remains agile and easily maneuverable. I have no problem pedaling the bike without any power, so there is nothing to worry when you run out of battery.

Comfort Beyond Expectation

Comfort is a critical factor, especially for those who use the bike daily or for extended periods. The Heybike Ranger S’s fat tires play a dual role. They are not merely designed for rough terrains but serve as natural shock absorbers, cushioning riders against the bumps and jolts of city roads. I can’t emphasize enough how the tires, coupled with the bike’s front suspension fork, ensured a smooth ride even off-road. It is not as comfortable as the EUYbike S4 I tested recently but you are guaranteed smooth rides on most terrains.

The bike’s agility largely comes from its 20″ x 4″ chunky tires, though I noticed a tendency for it to navigate corners with a broader sweep. The adjustable saddle and ergonomic handlebars add to the bike’s comfort, ensuring that riders reach their destinations without the typical physical strains associated with long rides.

Conclusion

Pros

Comfortable on various terrains

Good battery life

Powerful 750W motor

Convenient folding design

Useful turn signals

Cons

Expensive

Jerky rides due to cadence sensor

Price is always a consideration and the Heybike Ranger S is a premium investment at $1,399. While I love its performance and think it is a great choice for both novices and seasoned e-bike enthusiasts, I can’t justify the price tag because there are some decent e-bikes costing less than $1,000 at this time. If you are able to buy this bike at a discount, we highly recommend it.

Design & Aesthetics

Right out of the gate, the EUYbike S4 demands attention. Its sleek and modern design is a nod to contemporary aesthetics, ensuring it doesn’t look out of place in urban environments. The frame exhibits a fine balance of rigidity and flexibility, designed with both the casual commuter and the avid cyclist in mind. It proudly showcases the moto/moped design, highlighted by a dual crown suspension fork and a big headlight.

The light ensure visibility during night-time rides, while the responsive braking system offers quick stops when needed. The bike’s construction materials and craftsmanship also suggest durability, so this isn’t a bike that will wear out after a few months of rigorous use. This is an e-bike that you’d be proud to ride around town. The only missing feature here is the turn signals, so I still need to watch out carefully and use hand signals when making a turn.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the EUYbike S4 doesn’t disappoint. I’m impressed with the bike’s 1,000W motor and its capability to tackle a range of terrains. The bike boasts a top speed of 28 mph which is way faster than the 20 mph on my previous e-bikes. The cadence sensor ensures that the motor’s power delivery comes as soon as you start turning the pedals. This is not really a smooth transition and many people don’t like the sudden electric boost. It doesn’t provide the natural cycling experience but I got used to it in no time. I often use the twist throttle to start the bike and only start pedaling when it reaches my desired speed.

In the pedal-assisted mode, the pedals become super lightweight and sometimes I even thought the chain dropped off. I can effortlessly ride it for 10-20 miles without a sweat. I prefer using the throttle only because it is much easier to control the speed. When I need to exercise or share road with pedestrians, I often turn off the electric assistance and ride with pedals only. Surprisingly, pedaling this bike feels light and remains comfortable even without the power boost. This ease of pedaling is not common in many e-bikes out there. It’s especially beneficial when the battery depletes, allowing you to continue riding for miles without any issues.

Battery & Range

One of the most critical considerations for any e-bike enthusiast is the range. Fortunately, the EUYbike S4’s battery packs a punch in terms of endurance. The bike’s range of more than 40 miles in throttle mode is more than sufficient for daily commuting and even some extended recreational rides. Furthermore, the easy-to-access battery allows users to quickly remove and recharge it at any place, reducing the range anxiety that can sometimes come with electric vehicles.

Ride Comfort & User Experience

It’s evident that the designers of the EUYbike S4 prioritized rider comfort. The thick padded seat, ergonomic grips, and overall geometry of the bike cater to a range of body types and riding preferences. It is not adjustable but I feel very comfortable riding the bike for hours. The fat tires, full suspension and mid-mounted shock absorber do a commendable job of absorbing shocks from uneven terrains, ensuring a smooth ride even on bumpy city streets. I tested some fat-tire e-bikes with front suspension fork but they didn’t deliver the same comfortable and smooth rides.

The user interface is intuitive, with a clear display showing essential metrics like speed, battery level, and distance traveled. The inclusion of multiple assist levels allows riders to customize their experience based on their needs and the terrain.

Conclusion

Pros

Powerful 1,000W rear-hub motor

Comfortable ride with fat tires, cushioned seat and a full suspension system

Affordable price

Easy pedaling without motor

Great battery range

Stylish design

Bright front light

Cons

Unnatural motor boost

The EUYbike S4, while offering a plethora of features and commendable performance, comes at an affordable price point of just around $1,200 at this time. Make sure to apply the coupon code TD200 during checkout. It is still a hefty amount but for those who prioritize quality, it could be a worthy one. Its range, comfort, and moped design make it suitable for a wide array of users, from the daily commuter to the weekend adventurer.

The electric bike market is booming, and with the rise in popularity, a multitude of options are available for consumers. One such option that has garnered attention for its impressive specifications and value for money is the HiPEAK BONA Folding Electric Bike. As an avid cyclist and e-bike enthusiast, I was eager to put this foldable fat-tire bike through its paces and share my thoughts on its performance, features, and overall value.

Design and Aesthetics

Convenience is a key consideration for many e-bike users, and the HiPEAK BONA scores well in this category. The bike comes mostly pre-assembled, meaning that you can get up and running quickly with minimal fuss. I just had to attach the front wheel with a quick-release skewer, install the 2 pedals and some other accessories like the fender or headlight, and it’s ready to use. However, it is always a good idea to double-check the components and ensure everything is tightened and properly adjusted before embarking on your first ride.

The HiPEAK BONA Folding Electric Bike boasts a modern and sleek design with a removable battery under the seat. To remove the battery, you will need to use the provided key to unlock first before pulling it out. Additionally, the foldable nature of the frame ensures that the BONA remains compact and unobtrusive when not in use, which is particularly useful for those with limited storage space. The folded bike also fits perfectly inside my car trunk, so I can easily take it to my favourite destinations.

The e-bike features a foldable step-over frame but if you’re interested in the step-thru design, you can get the HiPEAK Elias. With just two simple steps, the bike can be folded and placed in the trunk of my car. However, it is still a bit heavy at nearly 62 lbs. Besides, I don’t really like the folding latch in the mid-frame as it is a bit obsolete and ugly. While this does not significantly impact the bike’s overall functionality, it could potentially be an area for improvement in future models. The adjustable stem, seat, and frame cater to riders of different sizes and preferences, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable ride, even on the roughest of terrains.

The BONA has an integrated rear rack, which offers ample storage space for carrying cargo or attaching accessories such as panniers, platforms, or baskets. This makes the bike a versatile option not only for commuting but also for grocery runs or weekend adventures.

Notably, the bike is equipped with the 4-inch wide puncture-resistant fat tires. These tires not only enhance the bike’s performance across various terrains but also contribute to a more aggressive and appealing appearance. The suspension front fork with up to 50mm travel provides added comfort and stability, allowing riders to tackle diverse landscapes with ease, from snow-covered trails and sandy beaches to rugged mountain roads and bustling urban environments.

Battery Range and Motor

At the heart of the HiPEAK BONA e-bike is a powerful combination of a 48V/15Ah battery and a 750W brushless geared motor. These components work together to ensure an impressive 60-mile range on a single charge, making the BONA an ideal choice for long commutes or extended weekend rides. A full charge of the battery takes around 6 hours. The 20mph top speed not only adds excitement to the ride but also allows for quicker travel times, a feature that will be appreciated by those with busy schedules. I really enjoy twisting the grip throttle to speed up and ride the bike without pedaling, it is like riding an electric moped.

Riding Performance and Safety

The BONA e-bike is designed to offer a customizable riding experience, with 7 pedal-assist levels and a Shimano 7-speed gear system that allows riders to adapt their ride based on the terrain and personal preferences. This means whether you’re an experienced cyclist looking for a challenge or a novice rider seeking a leisurely outing, the BONA can accommodate your needs. The only drawback is that the bike uses a cadence sensor which could lead to a jumpy and less seamless experience when compared to those featuring torque sensors. It engages the motor assistance as soon as the sensor detects movement, therefore, the riding experience is less natural and smooth. Fortunately, there is no sudden bursts of power and when I need power assistance, I always can use the twist throttle.

Safety is important when it comes to e-bikes, and the BONA does not disappoint as it is equipped with dual disc brakes that provide excellent stopping power, even in wet or slippery conditions. Additionally, the headlight and taillight ensure visibility during nighttime rides or in low-light situations, keeping riders safe and confident.

Conclusion

Pros

Reasonable price

Superb comfort with fat tires and front suspension

Powerful 750W motor

Cons

Obsolete folding latch

Electric assistance is not really smooth

The HiPEAK BONA E-Bike is an excellent option for those in search of a versatile, high-performance e-bike that offers great value for money. At this time, the bike costs less than $1,000. With its impressive range, powerful motor, foldable frame, and superb comfort on all terrains, the BONA is a fantastic choice for riders of all levels and preferences.
